I feel extremely fortunate to be part of TEAM ALMET. Why do I say this you may ask? Have you watched TV lately, listened to the radio or read the newspaper? How many companies have you heard about who are cutting back their number of employees or cutting back in the number of hours they are allowed to work? If your radio or TV has the same stations mine do, and I think they do, there have been many instances of layoffs and cutbacks. Yet we continue to be busy and are asking our people to work overtime. At this time we have at least a six month backlog and the prospect of even more.
Why is this? Do you think it may be because we’re proud of what we do? Is it because we do a good job of what we do? I would like to believe it’s both of these and much more.
Our delivered product is a culmination of the efforts of all the members of TEAM ALMET. Our Estimating Department has to choose the right kind of work and then put the right numbers on it to be the successful bidder. The Engineering Department has to make drawings for us to work from. The Processing Department has to “input” the material. Purchasing has to buy the material. Receiving has to receive the material and then bring it in to be blasted and fabricated. The saw, shear and ironworkers have to properly cut the materials for fabrication. The drill operator needs to put the holes in pieces properly and send it onto the fitters for all the proper parts and onto the welders for welding. After that we need to clean it, paint it, load it, and ship it. Each team member has his or her own specific duty to perform to make it all come out in the end. Throughout this entire fabrication process we have our team members in the Front Office who are answering the phone, posting time sheets, writing shop
orders, inputting bids, filing, paying bills and a multitude of other duties and functions; again, it’s all part of the team effort. The Shop Office takes care of all the supplies and scheduling the various work duties and many other facets of the day-to-day operation. Any team member who feels their job is not important; is selling themselves short. It takes all of our team members to make it all work. When everyone does their share, the work moves and the company makes a profit. Guess what, that’s what we’re here for. Profit pay for our wages and anything else we may need. Extra profit is where our bonuses and profit sharing come from.
The moral of the story; do your part for the team.
