The company started out by supplying miscellaneous metal fabrications for municipal wastewater treatment plants throughout the Midwest. As that market dwindled, Almet shifted its focus to fabricating structural steel. As the company gained experience with simple steel structures such as office buildings, schools, and retail stores. The miscellaneous metals became a minor part of the business.

Throughout the years as Almet's expertise grew, so did the scope and complexity of it's projects. In 1988, the company provided the structural steel framework for the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum expansion and the Exposition Center. In 1995, it completed the structure for the Purdue Bell Tower at Purdue University's main campus in West Lafayette. Other notable projects include the Lutheran and Dupont hospitals, the Norwest Bank Building, the Notre Dame natatorium, and the General Motors plant in Roanoke. In the mid 1980's, Almet began fabricating a line of asphalt producing equipment, a portion of its business known as ALmix. The ALmix product line includes cold feed bins, drum mixers, drag conveyors, bag-houses, and silos. The demand for ALmix equipment stems from its innovative design, which other manufacturers are starting to imitate. The company has patents pending on some of its machinery. ALmix plants have been shipped throughout the United States, as well as Canada, Alaska, Russia, Africa, Korea, Australia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Latin America.

In addition to building the ALmix asphalt equipment and supplying the company's general construction customers, Almet also provides custom fabrications for a wide variety of industrial customers.
